We’ve been living in London for 2 years now and we absolutely love this city. The decision to move to Hong Kong is definitely bittersweet – we’re really excited to discover life in HK but we are sad to leave London.
Here are the top 10 things we’ll miss about London:
Our usual breakfast haunts. Breakfast or brunch is such a nice meal to eat out with friends, and we do it pretty often. If you’re ever in London, you MUST go to the Regency Café in Pimlico for breakfast – it is the best fry up you will ever eat, guaranteed. Other places you can usually spot us on a Saturday morning are Gail’s and the Roasting on Denbigh Street.
Walks along the South Bank. I know the South Bank pretty well as I did my Masters in Waterloo and worked in Southwark for a year. We love walking along the river, mooching around the food and book markets and discovering all the nice shops in the area. It is such a fun place to walk as there always some kind of event or festival going on!
Driving across the river. Yes, we had a car for a year – crazy people owning a car in London! One of the major perks was definitely driving across London bridges and admiring the beautiful view on both sides on a clear day.
Enjoying the many parks. London’s countless parks is one of our favourite things about this city. Some parks hold really special places in our hearts as we’ve visited them so often or have really special memories there – Battersea Park, Richmond Park, Hampstead Heath and Greenwich Park are our favourites.
British conversation. This is something Sophie will miss more than Alex: strangers calling you ‘love’ or ‘darling’ in conversations. It’s a cultural particularity that I absolutely love and that makes English people feel warm and welcoming. We’ll also miss striking up random conversations with people on a bus or in the street!
The small blue “…lived here” signs. I love walking around London and discovering that artists I admire have lived in the city I love so much! Special mentions go to Viriginia Woolf and Beatrix Potter – I loved learning where they lived!
Selfridge’s. Yes, one shop has stolen our hearts. This is also due to the fact that we devoured many seasons of “Mr. Selfridge” in a month. We love walking around the store and lusting after all the beautiful homeware and clothes.
All the pubs. Pubs are one of our favourite things about England in general, not just London. There’s nothing quite like the warm atmosphere of a pub, a delicious bangers and mash and a nice refreshing Pimms on the weekend.
British TV. We don’t like to admit it but there are many British TV shows we love to watch… Sophie is hooked on Take me Out and Come Dine With Me, and Alex of course is in love with Top Gear. Matt LeBlanc joining the show has definitely made it more interesting for Sophie though J
Pimlico. Last but certainly not least, we are going to miss our neighbourhood dearly. It’s such a pretty and peaceful area of London – we love going on walks and admiring the white houses with black railings and pretty gardens.
